Wacker Dr. & Michigan Ave., Chicago ILSince this is my blog, I assume it’s a safe place to brag for a moment.  I have the best commute home from work. I play a little game while I walk.  I try to take each step with the music that I’m listening to at the time.  Yeah, I probabley look kind of goofy to those who pass by.

While walking home on Tuesday, my random playlist pulled up the following songs that are worth checking out:

1.  Brandon Heath - Give Me Your Eyes
Listening to Brandon’s music, it’s easy to tell who his musical influences are:  Ryan Adams, Josh Rouse, and Matt Wertz.   He began playing guitar and writing songs as a 13-year old.  He found himself inspired by writers like Sing, Shawn Colvin, David Wilcox, Ryan Adams, Josh Rouse, and Matt Wertz.  Brandon Heath’s music is featured here in Chicago on stations like Shine.FM (89.7fm) and KLOVE (94.3fm).

2.  Nada Surf – I Like What You Say
Thanks to Jefferez for tipping me off to this awesome cd!  Wikipedia taught me that this band is perhaps best-known for the song “Popular” from their album High/Low.  But I remember Nada Surf best from when their song “Always Love” was featured in an episode of FOX’s highly acclaimed show, “The OC.”  They’re back with a new indi rock album entitled “Lucky.”

AOL Radio has a live performance of the song.  Click here to check out the video.

3.  Afters – Never Going Back to Ok
Alright, you really can’t classify this song as “new,” but I’m sure it will be fresh to you nonetheless.  Recently signed to Columbia Records, The Afters is a rock band formed by two guys who first worked together in a Starbucks in Mesquite, TX, where they played for customers who were decided what to order.

More on the way.  :)
