If you’ve ever lost a pet, you know how upsetting it can be. The people behind Animal Control in Apple Valley, CA put their thinking caps on and came up with an idea to help reunite owners with their missing pets. The town of Apple Valley’s Animal Services Department in the process of setting up a website where photos of found pets will be displayed.
According to the Victorville Daily Press, “indexing the pictures by breed and other characteristics will give Animal Services a better chance of finding the owner if, for example, a pet has slipped out of its collar.”
To get your pet included in the database, e-mail a JPG-formatted photo to AVpetID@applevalley.org. Put “AV Pet ID” plus the license number in the subject line. Include the owner’s name, pet’s name and breed, street address and dog license number. Photos should be clear and well lit, and file sizes no larger than 1 MB.
While cats do not have to be licensed, feline photos will be included in the database as well.
