My sources have informed me that Caribou Coffee is opening a store right around the corner from where I live! That’s great news for this coffee lover!

Well, actually I don’t hate TIVO. I don’t have TIVO. I have Dish Network’s DVR. Before I go to bed each night, I scroll through the channel guide to see if there is anything that I want to tape the next day.

So on Sunday night, I told my Dish Network Tivo to record last night’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” because Relient K was the musical act. This morning, I was all excited to watch their performance. I hit play and continued to eat my cinnamon toast. To my shock and dismay, the recording stopped as soon as Relient K took the stage! AHHHHHH!!!!! I MISSED IT! My Tuesday was crushed…

Man, what a weekend!
Friday –> Went to SummerFest up in Milwaukee
Saturday –> Spent pretty much the whole day studying
Sunday –> Oh my…Sunday was an adventure…here’s where my next story begins…

As you might already know, my mom, my sister, and my sisters boyfriend used to share a townhome in the Chicago area. About a month ago, my mom moved to Tucson, Arizona to be closer to my grandparents. My sister Jyl, and her boyfriend Paul, found a roomate to replace my mom’s portion of the rent. Shortly after moving in, the new roommate secretly moved out, leaving Jyl and Paul to pay for the rent of this big townhome. Unable to pay the rent, Jyl called in for backup. Dad said that she and Paul could move in with him. Only one thing left to do, break the lease.

Jyl called the landlord. He agreed to terminate the lease at the end of the month with no penalty. Jyl then asked him if she could use her security deposit as last months rent. He agreed so Jyl didn’t give him a rent check for the month of July. Late Saturday night, Paul came home and found a Notice of Eviction in their mailbox. According to the letter, they were being evicted for failure to pay rent. In other words, they had five days to move out.

With tears in her eyes, Jyl called me later that night and asked me to come down and help them move. Being the nice little brother that I am, I agreed to help. I snapped this picture on my camera phone right before I left Rockford. I don’t think that I’ve ever paid that much for gas! Ahhhh! Oh, how I long for the days where gas was 99 cents a gallon! I am SO sore from all of the moving. I ended up leaving around 9 last night.

The moral of my story? Get everything in writing! It’s a simple case of “her word against mine.”

Yesterday, I went to Milwaukee with a few friends to see Marc Broussard and Ingram Hill in concert. Mind you, I had yet to travel to Milwaukee since I’ve moved to Rockford. The trip was interesting.

No offense to you if you live in WI. The interstate that we were traveling on were SO bumpy. I thought Illinois roads were bad. Second, people in Wisconsin really do drive differently than those in Illinois. Normally, when you’re coming onto the interstate, you accelerate to merge, right? Makes sense to me. Not to people in Wisconsin. They slow down! It happened at every onramp that I passed. I think I might just have to stick to Illinois roads here on out.

Is it me or are people looking younger than they really are? I saw so many ‘under 21 looking’ kids with beer bottles in their hands. Maybe they don’t card as hard up in Wisconsin.

Lately, I’ve been thinking of changing majors. At my current pace, it’s going to take me a hundred years to get my degree. Each course that I’ve taken has taken me much longer to complete than anticipated. 6+ months to complete a class. Crazy stuff! I’d really like to get my degree before grey hairs start sprouting.

My thought is to major in Business Management/Leadership. Once I get my bachelors, then I’d like to work on my masters in Church Leadership. I’ve yet to enroll in fall semester, so I have a lot of decisions to make.

Next blog post…Rick’s spiritual dream. Some might call it a vision. Straight out of the book of Revelations. Maybe I’ll post on that tomorrow.
