Earlier this year, many of us were angered by the new privacy polices enacted by Facebook, as it put more and more of our personal information into the spotlight for everyone else to see.  Although Facebook has worked to keep their members happy, many just wanted the CEO of the company to apologize.  That’s exactly what he has done through this YouTube video.  Watch…and laugh.

This could quickly become the most “liked” apology to date.

So you think that paying your bills on time will improve your credit score?  If that is what you believe, you will be surprised to learn that paying your bills on-time only accounts for 35% of your credit score.  That means that 65% of your score has absolutely nothing to do with missed payments.

I bet more than half of my wardrobe came from an outlet mall.  When we lived in Chicago, Sarah and I lived within driving distance of an awesome mall that had a number of stores that most other outlet malls don’t have.  We loved it.  The choice was simple:  spend a lot of money or spend a little.

Outlet malls can be great.  Don’t get me wrong.  However, this list from Smart Money magazine has really opened my eyes to what’s going on at these outlet outposts.  For example, have you ever wondered why outlet malls are typically found in remote locations?  It’s not by coincidence!  Apparently distance spent traveling equates to a greater amount spent.  Once you’ve made that commitment to drive to a far off place to visit an outlet mall, chances are you’re going to spend more than if you had just gone to the neighborhood mall.  For most, it’s a daylong affair.  It’s not the kind of trip where you go to just pick up a thing or two…and the retailers know it!

You can gather a lot of information from Facebook status message updates.  David McCandless and his team scanned over 10,000 Facebook status messages to find out when people break up.

  • There’s a great deal of breakups right before Spring Break
  • Most people breakup on Mondays
  • People like to start the summer being single
  • There’s a big peak of breakups right before Christmas
  • The lowest breakup day of the entire calendar year is Christmas day.

They say that all good things must come to an end.  Really, there’s only two things that can happen to a relationship.   Couples can either grow closer together or closer apart.  So, what are some things that you can do to help grow your relationship together?

Writer Kimberly Dawn Neumann has put together her list of the Top 5 Habits that Keep Couples Happy (and as a result, stronger):

1.)  Catch romance where you Can
“You may start out with chocolates and roses, but the likelihood of being able to sustain that feeling with a busy schedule is pretty unlikely,” says JoAnn Magdoff, Ph.D., a New York City-based psychotherapist. Successful couples learn to build a bubble of romance at unexpected times — during their daily commute, while doing laundry — and in low-impact ways, whether that be a long, lingering smooch or just holding hands. In other words, the next time you hear yourself say “Oh, look, we’ve got 15 minutes to ourselves,” make use of it — that’s what keeps the spark alive.

2.)  Habit #2: Fight fair
Believe it or not, learning to fight right is an important part of keeping chemistry alive. Why? Because if you are constantly cutting each other down, it’s hard to feel mutually amorous. “There is no such thing as a relationship without disagreements,” says David Wygant, author of Always Talk to Strangers. “But if there is an understanding that your partner can come to you with any dissension without being attacked, you will have an honest relationship comprised of ‘open discussions’ rather than ‘fights.’” Debra Tobias, who has been happily married for almost 10 years to her husband Steve, agrees. “Steve and I have learned to listen to each other when we’re upset and we admit when we’re wrong,” says Tobias. “We also make a rule of never, ever saying ‘I told you so’ no matter how much we might want to say it.” The result is that their chemistry doesn’t wane because they never let their arguments escalate to a personal level. Focus on the issue at hand instead of throwing verbal punches.

Undercover Boss,” one of the new shows on CBS, has quickly become a huge hit.  It drew 38.6 million viewers for its debut episode in February 2010 and averaged 17 million viewers per episode for the rest of the season.

Based on the overwhelming success of this show, we must love watching our bosses sweat out the tasks that we find so simple to complete!  Apparently we love watching 7-Eleven’s top dog struggle to stock shelves or watching as the president of 1-800-Flowers make a less-than-stunning bouquet!

With that said, do you think your boss could do your job for a day?  If your boss were to take your place for a day or two, what would your boss realize about your job if he or she had to do it for a day?

Being in radio, I have moved around the country frequently throughout my career.  Radio stations change formats, stations sell, and sometimes you just can’t pull in the big ratings needed to get the job done.  U-Haul really should offer a frequent customer program to radio guys like me.

Don’t get me wrong, I was thrilled about moving to Las Vegas.  However, saying goodbye to my wife and newborn daughter was a difficult thing to do.  The one month that we planned on being a part quickly turned into two.   When it was all said and done, I had spent more time away from my newborn baby girl than I had spent with her.   I was not only home sick, but lonesome without two girls.

Last weekend, I flew home to Chicago, loaded the family into the SUV, and hit the road to begin our cross country trek to Las Vegas.  The 1900 miles or so behind the wheel was intense, but it was well worth it.  Having Sarah sitting next to me in the car instead of being on the other end of a phone line was so special.

During our time apart, I missed a few “firsts” with my daughter.   Don’t get me wrong, she’s still very young, so I didn’t miss any gigantic milestones, but I did miss her first smile, her first laugh, and her first meal of something other than milk.

Last night, I experienced a first of my own.  At dinner time, Sarah handed me a bowl of mashed up baby carrots and a spoon.  For the first time ever, I fed my baby June with a spoon!  Although she screamed the whole time, I relished every spoonful.

In case you were wondering what you can get me for Christmas…here it is!

Jones Soda and J&D Foods have teamed up to bring you bacon flavored soda, bacon-chedder flavored popcorn, and bacon flavored lip balm.  Just in time for the holidays, I might add!

“Nailing the flavor was tough. We didn’t want pot roast, we didn’t want pork tenderloin, we wanted bacon. The drink started out tasting more like ham than pork. But eventually we were able to get the crispiness of bacon in there without it being overpowered by porkiness,” J&D Foods owner Justin Esch told AOLNews.

Recall alert!  There have been so many recalls announced over the past few weeks that I had to add a category to my blog site called “Recalls.”  It’s nuts!

A cheese sold recently at Costco stores in five states has been preliminarily linked to an E. coli outbreak that has sickened 25 people.

The Bravo Farms Dutch Style Raw Milk Gouda Cheese was offered for sale and for in-store tasting between Oct. 5 and Nov. 1 at Costco stores in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and the San Diego, Calif., area.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 25 cases of people sickened by E. coli O157:H7 in those states during that time.  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the illnesses include 11 in Arizona, eight in Colorado, three in New Mexico, two in Nevada and one in California.

No deaths have been reported, but nine people were sick enough to be hospitalized, the FDA said.  The FDA advised anyone experiencing symptoms to contact a health care provider.

Interestingly enough, my father-in-law who lives in Chicago was disappointed when the Gouda cheese that he bought at Costco went bad days after making the purchase.  Coincidence?  I think not!
